I hoped so deeply that I would find a a person that would be an arbiter for my family and our complicated situation. I believed that if I was honest and finally stood up for the truth that she would at least take what I said into account but she completely disregarded everything I told her from the first conversation we had. I felt as though she had zero concern for my childrens safety and my own as well. There is absolutely nothing worse than having the person that is supposed to protect you and your children do the exact opposite and argue with you and interrupt you while you are trying to explain why she doesn't understand. I expressed concern about my childrens safety and she laughed it off and didn't even talk to them one on one like I asked. She spoke with multiple witnesses and continually justified the unacceptable behavior of my children's father. We all felt unheard and defeated and that we didn't stand a chance. She was incredibly disconnected and unaware of real life situations.

Very unprofessional. Talks constantly about her own life and situation. Continuously brings up money and how much she is charging and what a great deal we were getting. Does not listen, manipulates situations, has a complete disregard for factual evidence. If you tell her something and she disagrees, she will make excuses as to why you are wrong relating it to her own life. Refers to people using wildly inappropriate nicknames. Referred inappropriately to one witness about the physique of another witness. Talked about how she was jealous of a child's hair in a legal document. She talked to my child's teacher who told me that Melissa was very unprofessional and would not listen to facts. The teacher reported that what was put in the report as her own words were completely false. She is very socially awkward and kept bowing to myself and my parents during a home visit where she was wearing sweatpants. Avoid using her as a CFI or anything else for that matter.

My ex-spouse and I hired Melissa to mediate on our behalf. Melissa charged us $600 up front and told us this would include 2-3 hours of mediation, and the filing of the paperwork with Eagle County. Initially, she did a good job of helping us reach an agreement that suited our needs. After our 3 hour conversation, we were asked to follow-up 3 weeks afterwards, so she could file the paperwork. Melissa wanted an additional $600 that was never mentioned up front. Even then, we agreed to move forward 6-8 weeks afterwards; Melissa never returned my ex-spouses phone calls. Melissa was also unprofessional, was late on our first call, and referred to me as “dude” on 4 occasions during the mediation.

When it came to my mediation she was strong and willing to fight for what was fair and always happy to help with all my questions. I highly recommend Melissa Decker to any of my friends who need legal counsel.
