From first phone call to inquire about sod pricing until returning empty pallets- entire business experience was nothing but positive! Laura is professional, friendly, courteous, helpful and very accommodating to customers, The gentleman who loaded the sod was also just as polite and professional. Very happy with the quality of the sod we purchased- will do business with again & highly recommend Carter Sod Farm.

Very frustrating and a big waste of time experience. Also they only accept cash and don’t tell you that in the phone, so you might be surprised showing up there to find that out.

Here’s my experience:

I called this morning to ask about what sod they had available. They didn’t have Bermuda, which is what I was looking for originally but said they had centipede. I said I’d need to do some research to make sure that could work for the area I’m putting it down on. I called back and said we’d be good with the centipede and I asked if that was something they had a pallet of to sell to us today. The lady I spoke to said yep they could do it today and actually a new truck just brought more in. So, I said okay great we are on the way to get a pallet of centipede. I also asked if they sold less than a pallet but was told a pallet is the minimum (just putting this detail in here for any once else this may be relevant for).

While on the phone the lady was very nice.

We drove all the way out to their business which was a good 30-40 minute drive from us.

We got there and it was a building more like a house. Unsure if this was a business or a home, we didn’t know if we could walk in the door or not so we rung the doorbell. Nobody answered the door. We were definitely at the right place because I could see the business sign, the loading equipment, and the sign at the door saying sod prices and that they do not accept card. Only accept cash or check.

Was thinking man I hope there is some place close where I can get cash. This is not exactly in town.

Still after a few minutes no one came to the door, so I called the number back. No answer. I started looking around to see if maybe someone was outside around the side of the building and why they didn’t hear the doorbell. While I was doing that my spouse called the business number on their cell phone. The lady answered, we said we are here and asked where she was. She then told us there is no sod available it’s all sold today. I asked how? We just spoke and said we were on the way to buy the pallet from you. She said yeah they are first come first serve so they sold it.

This is an absolutely ridiculous and incredibly rude way to treat a customer. I drove all the way out there thinking there was a pallet of sod I can buy. Wasted hours of my day when I should’ve just gone somewhere else. It is absolutely ridiculous to sell out from under somebody like that knowing good and well we were on our way. She could have at least called me back and said she sold the pallet so I shouldn’t waste any more time coming. Would’ve been pissed but happier than this. Not like I was asking her to hold this pallet for even several hours. I literally told her we were coming and went straight there.

Thought about giving two stars because they were nice at first, but decided against it because now I can’t even work on my project can’t spend anymore time today locating sod. This completely ruined my day. Wouldn’t want anyone else to end up in the same situation.

She did say I could come back tomorrow because they will have a new load in. Definitely won’t be going back tomorrow to have more sod sold out from under me.

We bought 7 pallets of Centipede from Carter's a month ago. They were delivered Friday as asked and laid the next day. The grass rooted in and is looking great after the required watering and rolling. Deposit for the pallets returned with no issues. Great sod company to do business with.

Sod arrived in terrible shape. I don’t know if we got a bad batch or if this is usual for them. At least 3 pallets were unusable. When we called for a remedy, the lady was incredibly rude, so we used Gulf Coast for the rest of our 4 acres.

I dont know if there is a language barrier or what, but I've called on 3 occasions explaining that I wanted to pick up a pallet of St Augustin, and each time I was told something different. A month ago, I was told there are no pre-orders. Today, I was finally able to make my way to grab some right at open. I called yesterday to set everything up. I was told to be there at a certain time today and the dollar amount. I called this morning to confirm! Upon arrival, I was told they don't have st Augustine and it has to be pre-ordered. So I asked if I could give her the money to pre-order one since I was already there, and I was told no! They aren't accepting pre-orders! Every time I go, it's the biggest waste of time and gas, she changes her stories to suit her fancy. It's ridiculous. All of the positive reviews are from home deliveries to large acre estates... don't believe me just see for yourself. Not all customers are treated equally.

I bought a pallet of sod and it is doing great! Prices were lower than I could find anywhere else and the customer service was very nice. The sod goes very quickly, so I appreciate the woman at the desk helping to make sure I got a pallet. One week later and it's filling in my yard quite nicely, especially for centipede grass, which is the lowest of the grass types. All in all, a great experience.
