This post is long but it needs to be. Jerry, who is the actual owner, was really good to start. I told him I was going to hire him for my $47,000 JOB. I live where there is an HOA. Therefore I asked for his license and insurance to get approval on this very costly project as I am required to do. He said we just don't do that UNTIL A DEPOSIT. What Who would do that as their HOA can say no to any part of Hardscape project or the type of plantings you want to put in. He then agreed to signing with no deposit. When I went to do so I noticed the individual quotes totalled MORE then the computerized total by 4,000 +. When I questioned this he said he did not know why that happpened. I would have been in some mess had I signed that since it was individually broken down for each part of the job. He then proceeded to say he needs my other estimate from another landscaper that was originally equal to his as I was "pushing" too hard for his license and insurance. He wanted to see the craftsmanship from the estimate was his explanation Maybe because I had to get going due to October and approval time with the HOA and planting time running out was more likely why I needed the license and insurance and I had chosen to use him. The implication was clear I was using his information for someone who was perhaps off the books. Then he told me how people go out of business all the time meanwhile the other company, who is also small like him, is so busy he's hard to get ahold of which was the reason I was looking at Jerry to begin with. The other individual is in business twice as long as Jerry, I had physically seen his work, my neighbors highly recommended him and I already had his license and insurance with no problem. It was insulting my intelligence that I don't do my homework. Then I was abruptly told by via text the same day I questioned the 4,000 difference we don't match prices even though I had simply said I have to think about if I want to spend this additional 4,000 more. He said got it good luck literally. Now the individual I told I wasn't going to use doesn't know if he could get me in before the end of the season as he took additional jobs right behind me since I told him I wasn't going to use him. Jerry doesn't seem to understand that after insulting me that I would be such a lowlife to use his insurance and license for someone else then doesn't apologize that his estimate is off by $4,000 and then acts as if I've got some nerve thinking about whether or not I want to spend $4,000 more when he was originally equal to the other individual and I'm already spending 47,000 which is now 51,000. I did nothing wrong and now I may not have my job done before the winter which matters because I have a lot of problems with soaking water in my backyard and I have four dogs. Then he told me to stop texting him because I expressed my unhappiness at likely not getting the work done before the winter which was so important to me. Usually people who accuse you of things that are unscrupulous are either really jaded and you have a problem with them when they do their work or maybe that's the way they REALLY are especially when their estimate was off by $4,000 that I was just darn lucky to catch by adding up computerized generated numbers ALSO before I signed it!!
