I had an incredibly unpleasant experience at The Orchid Lady and feel compelled to share my disappointment. From the moment I stepped foot in the store, the owner was shockingly rude. When I described the orchid I was looking for (albeit vaguely), she immediately shut me down, insisting they didn’t have anything similar without even allowing me to explore options.

I politely asked if I could look around to find a suitable gift for someone else, but the situation escalated when I tried to take a few photos—from a considerable distance of about 6 feet away—to confirm with my mother whether the orchids would work. The owner abruptly barked at me to stop taking photos, citing the risk of some sort of accident, despite my clear effort to maintain distance and care around the orchids.

Feeling unwelcome and disrespected, I left the store. For anyone considering visiting, be warned: if you’d like to spoil your mood or ruin your day, this is the place to go.

I have spent thousands of dollars in her shop this year and put her rude attitude aside. I have since decided that her rudeness and poor customer service is not worthy of my good money. There are many other shops with quality orchids who are happy to service and appreciate their clients.

We’ve been using Doris from Orchid Lady forever! She’s has a wonderful selection of Orchids as well as beautiful unique pots to place them. Now that we’ve become snowbirds when we arrive back to Sarasota we simply drop off our pots to her and she creates wonderful arrangements for us to enjoy. They last a long time. We also send Orchid gifts every year which we order over the phone. Orchid Lady is definitely the goto place in Sarasota for Orchids.

High quality plants at very reasonable prices. The owner has been in business for many years and many people depend on her. She is quite introverted and very protective of her plants: don’t expect a friendly, smiling sales lady. She is more likely to growl, “don’t touch!” But you can trust her plants and her advice.

Please note that there are several one-star reviews noting that the owner is not friendly.. These reviews are very unfair. She is a plant lady, and not a people person. That’s why she has managed a plant business for 20 years. Service, selection and quality are excellent at her store. Just don’t walk in expecting a typical outgoing salesperson. If you treat her (and the plants!) with respect, you will become a loyal customer, as I have been for many years.

Very pleasant experience. The owner was welcoming, engaging, helpful and knowledgeable. The store has unique and meticulously cared for plants not found in nurseries. I can't wait to go back.

Having been warned how unpleasant the Orchid Lady was, I nonetheless decided to check out her store as I was looking for two particular orchids. I removed a tape measure from my purse to measure the height of one of her orchids because I needed a certain height. As I was measuring the plant, having never touched it, the Orchid Lady came flying over in a total snit accusing me of touching her orchid. I had not. I immediately turned and left her store. I am a great lover of orchids and have a house full of them. I will never step foot in that store again. If you love orchids, I suggest you visit Awesome Orchids on Pineapple Avenue in Sarasota. It is a beautiful store. The owners are very pleasant and extremely service oriented.
The Orchid Lady does a good job of turning off potential customers. My advice is stay away.
