Do not buy bare root trees here. We bought 10 bare root fruit trees in April and only 3 have leafed out, 7 are dead. We are experienced planters and have never had this happen before. Reading other reviews I never should have shopped here. It took considerable effort to drive, purchase, and plant these trees only to meet with a lot of disappointment. Holly Acres should not be on business imo.

We spent thousands of dollars there on trees and they sent us a dying tree. They picked out the trees for us and It was obviously dying and yellow when it arrived at our house. We immediately contacted them and they basically said no give backsies! I could see that being the case if I picked the tree and I didn’t take good care of it. But they picked it and sent it knowing it was dying!
We used their recommended delivery and planting person (who was fantastic and would recommend him) but we had no way of bringing a 500lb tree back to them which is why we paid for deliver and planting in the first place. I’ve emailed the owner and they never respond. We did everything right (we are avid gardeners and even had a professional watering system out in and there was just no saving this diseased tree!
Absolutely ridiculous that you treat customers this way! I would highly recommend you go elsewhere for your trees! It’s not worth it to buy a slightly less expensive tree if it’s going to die anyway. Use another nursery with far better looking trees! There are plenty around.
I’ve included pictures of the tree when it arrived and now that it’s completely dead!

Editing: I didn’t want to delete because I wanted the quick reply from the owner to be seen by the public.
I’m adjusting my review because if it was a customer who was sitting at the desk that doesn’t reflect the business at all. I look forward to going back later this week and touring the facility.

Having just moved to the area, I wanted to go get some plants to liven up our home (both inside and out). Walking through the door, I was greeted with dying plants and a rude employee. I didn’t catch her name but she sat at the desk, offered zero help, avoided eye contact, and when I went to ask her questions about the area she was not willing to answer them. Maybe it was an off day for her, it was definitely an off putting experience for me. I will be reluctant to return, but may try again come spring because it looks like usually have a lot more to offer.

I planted these Cheyenne Privets in April 2021 and took some pictures in August 2021. They are growing very well. The host at the nursery was nice and they even loaded the privets into my vehicle. I would recommend these !

So... Found this nursery online, and checked out their website for an idea of inventory and hours.

Went during business hours, but everything was locked? No sign on the door describing anything other than they're open 9-5.

Not sure if it's common here, but makes it really difficult to patronize local business if customers don't know when they're expected to show up?

Unfortunately, we'll have to look for a nursery that has more reliable hours. Which is really unfortunate.

Purchased 7 trees from here last fall. All but 2 died within 9 months. I am a very experienced home gardner/landscaper. When I called to discuss replacements, I was rudely told nope. Very disappointing. I will not purchase from them again.

I have been multiple times and purchased trees in containers which were fairly priced and turned out well.

I needed some ten foot blue spruce trees and pre-ordered 3 for approximately $700 each in the winter for spring planting.

I went with the installer the nursey recommended who picked up the trees, delivered, and installed

When he showed up and planted one of the spruce trees it was already dying.

I also noticed a white fungus on the trunk.

We immediately called the nursery and were told they don't have a refund policy. We reached out to the owner with no response.

Essentially they ripped me off and sold me an infected tree that is dying / dead tree.

Update:

The tree is complete bare and dead just two months after buying. I purchased other trees that are lush green ( I installed an irrigation system the 2nd day).

Reply to the owner:

My wife and I have emailed you multiple times with no response. I pre-ordered the tree and did not pick it out. You or your nursery staff did and it showed up half dead.

In hindsight I should of verified what trees were selected for the pre-order, but I never could fathom a nursery would sell such a sick looking tree at full price (normally it is just shape and size you would have to select).

It is just plain bad business and other buys should be warned.

Huge selection of native trees, hard to find cultivars, and they are all really well kept. Their prices beat the big box stores from full size trees down to perennial flowers. The staff have plenty of knowledge and wisdom to share, and it's a real treat to get walked around and hear about favorite trees and why.

This was the first time I'd ever seen a bristlecone pine! It's a real treat to talk with folks that know a lot about trees and plants and it's refreshing to know it's our neighbors running the joint.

I absolutely will be back for life and will focus on Holly Acres instead of any big box store.
